Girl... you'll be a woman soon... those Neil Diamond lyrics instantly pop in my head when I think about being a woman... (and the lovely scene where Uma Thurman dances to it in Pulp Fiction while Urge Overkill covers it)... Well, this little black dress that you see below, from Lulu's.com brought this feeling into perspective to me. There have only been a few times in my life where I really felt like a woman. I think being only 5' tall, and checkers still always thinking Im 18 years old has a little to do with it. Every now and then Ill do a lookbook shoot or something like that, and when I see the girl on the computer looking back at me, Ill think she looks like a woman. Maybe that feeling will really kick in when I bare children? Or turn 50, ha ha. Im not sure. But all that being said... (and not that feeling like a woman really has anything to do with dressing sexy at all)... I found myself having a bit of a hard time b/c this adorable little black dress really does not allow you to hide that side of yourself, unless of course I draped it with a sweater! Half way through the shoot, I had a little moment within myself. Realizing Im going to be turning 30 years old in 2 months, I had no reason to not embrace my sexyness and womanhood... Do you ever have a hard time embracing that side of yourself? ...Im sure you will be seeing this dress pop up in a few artistic photoshoots in the future b/c it is just so rad.

ReplyDeleteYou look stunning, lady! Seriously gorgeous.
ReplyDeletesexy indeed. i'm married and still don't feel like a woman sometimes lol i read that we all have a child inside of us (spiritually) that needs to be nurtured. maybe it's true
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning!
ReplyDeletei like that dress. and in the pic where you are leaning forward, you boobage looks amazing!!! lol
ReplyDeletegorgeous! simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteSuch a sexy dress! You definitely rock it.
ReplyDeleteI'm only 18 and I wondered if the feeling of being "a kid" still ever really went away. At least I know it's not just me or at my age - just something that people feel sometimes, so I am still a youngin' but I guess I share that feeling to an extent!

You definitely look like a woman! A beautiful one at that :) Btw, congrats on turning 30 soon, I think it's a great birthday. I'm enjoying my 30s much more than my 20s!
ReplyDeleteYou look very very good!
ReplyDeletelove the details of the dress, love the tights/shoes colour combination, beautiful!
i'm 29 too and 5'2... and I feel half/half the time like a woman/like an eternal teenager :)
You look fantastic!! I have MASSIVE dress envy!!
ReplyDeleteI relate to this post in it's entirety. I have such a baby face that embracing my sexy side can sometimes feel counterproductive. I too am just over 5 foot tall. They way I've begun to look at the i.d. checkers is - the day they stop checking, is the day I have a problem, because then I must be old. But honey you look like a woman, if I've ever seen one. You are glowing and that dress just fits you so well! Beautiful lady!
ReplyDeleteAre you really only 5' tall? Teehee, that makes me a whole inch taller than you ; ] But I feel your "pain" on being taken to be younger than you actually are--I get that all the time. But I don't understand how anyone could see you as 18 or even 22! You always look so sophisticated and beautiful and put together! People should realize height isn't everything right?
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think I've ever felt sexy or like a woman--I am stuck as the "cute" one for life ; ]
I LOVE this look on you!!! I think when I turned 30, I definitely felt more comfortable embracing a sexier side of myself in terms of dressing. I went out a lot in my early 30s (I was single again and had a new urge to have constant adventures), and I wore pretty short dresses and skirts, and more revealing clothing. I think one can dress a little more "risque" and still be incredibly classy, as you are in these pictures. Make me want to go buy that dress! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSexy and beautiful woman!!
ReplyDeleteAw, man. They don't even have that dress anymore :( I want it!
ReplyDeleteHey girly!!
ReplyDeleteOk, so first off, you just broke my heart with that dress. Scoured the Lulus site and of course it's not available...it's AMAZING!
Anyways, then I was talking with Amy about this post and the dress and after she read it we were chatting about what you wrote.
I was honestly SO surprised to read that you don't usually feel super womanly, because to me you are SUCH a woman. You don't strike me as a girl at ALL. You are so incredibly strong, and confident. You are absolutely beautiful, and you dress in a way that shows that you understand and love your body - but that it belongs to YOU and no one else. I don't know if that makes sense...you know your figure and you know how to dress it, and it never feels forced or like you are uncomfortable.
Also, I definitely feel like hooping and yoga help a TON with feeling womanly and knowing and loving your body. Keep on keepin' on, lady!! You're kind of secretly an inspiration to me but shhhh don't tell.
:)

You look amazing!!!!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteDude... this dress is KICK ASS like WOAH! You look killer amazing i love i love i love i love.
ReplyDeleteI have the opposite problem. since I was 14, I was 5'9". And then boobs just blammo arrive at 16 and woah did I look like a woman. I was very very insecure and embarrassed by my body until about 21 or 22 and it has taken me a long time to accept and love my woman look that arrived at a very early age. I'm naturally very shy about my body, and I really am embarrassed when my boobs are obviously their size. I do anything to make them look smaller. But every so often I'm ok with embracing my full on woman power. And damn, if I could go without a bra and my boobs wouldn't sag like a grandma, I or if I could find a strapless bra that fit me, I would SO rock that dress. it looks SO GOOD on you!
Well... i think i would look a little slutty if i wore it with my boobs, but it seriously looks like it was made for you. Its perfect and you look gorgeous.

wow! you look so beautiful. It fits you so perfectly, sexy woman!
ReplyDeleteYou look GORGEOUS! That dress is stellar, and you rock it, lady.
ReplyDeleteAlso... ^^^Elise's comment is so beautiful and so true! You are strong, confident, womanly, brave, and wonderful. Lovelovelove you. xo.
I'm 5"3 and a size 0, so most teenage girls are bigger than me and it doesn't help to make me feel like a woman..You look gorgeous and definitely lady like. And does it matter? You seem happy, in love and successful. Nothing to worry about!

Laura you look amazing in that dress!! love love love it!
ReplyDeleteZoe x

ReplyDeleteLove this look! You look gorgeous. I had to feature it in my trending post because it was a prime example. I hope you don't mind :/

Woah, that dress is absolutely stunning! You know, when I was growing up I always thought that I would feel like a woman as soon as I turned 20. Well, I'm nearly 24 now & I'm still waiting to feel grown up at all!
ReplyDeleteVery cute dress! I can tell you that having children doesn't make a hoot of a difference. I have two kids and I still feel/think of myself as 18 (I'll be turning 28 this year!). I'm not sure that ever changes. You're as young as you feel! :D
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the styling! I love the whole look! I feel like I'm pretty tomboy so it's only once in a while that I feel like "a woman". Plus, being only 25, I still feel like I am stuck in the same body I had when I was 18. haha
