Turning an errand run into a mini date...

The other day we had to run some errands so we ran to K-town. While we were there we stopped in our favorite little coffee shop and two thrift stores along the way. I found the two yummy rugs below for cheap cheap at the craft store as well! I was super excited. Bella loves the green one. I was so happy it was just chill enough to wear my favorite little flannel. Here are just a few fun photos I took along the way.

A feminine and unique touch for your jewelry...

This is such a simple DIY I didnt take photos of process.  Basically, I had empty was space behind my door (that I couldn't put anything thicker than an inch deep), a bunch of beautiful lace that my Nanna gave me, and a desperate need for earrings racks for my growing collection.  And this is what I came up with.  I think its a beautiful simple way to display my earrings.  Although this is for my jewelry studio, I could see this in a bedroom for a personal collection as well.  

I just cut the strips of lace the same length.  I used push pins to attach them to the wall.  I stretched them pretty tight across b/c I knew the weight of the earrings would pull them down a bit.  I also folded in the edges to make a thicker, more sturdy base for the push pins.  Thats it!

 

Im excited to share some more photos of my finished studio soon!  Ive been enjoying every day I get to work in there.  I have some fun and exciting things Im working on, so creating a space that is highly functional and time saving has been a high priority.  Its been quite a challenge, but its coming together.  Id love to see a photo if you decide to do this for your own jewelry collection!

Our 4 year anniversary date night...

Last night James and I went on a date to Fralo's, a semi-local (for us) pizza joint that we love.  We have made it our special place to go to on birthdays and anniversaries and such.  The pizza is the best Ive ever had, and its just a nice mom and pop style place.  I got a pizza with pears, gorgonzola cheese & prosciutto and James got his half with alfredo, basil, bacon & pineapple.  We got garlic bread sticks to begin with and finished off with this crazy layered cheesecake.  And I had shiner.  We were sooooo stuffed we both ate about two bites of the cheesecake.  But now we have leftovers of everything to have a second date night at home!  The best surprise of the evening was having a band called Lady Jane Grey play.  They hold a special place in my heart from when I first saw them play about 11 years ago.  They dont play anymore, it actually had been 5 years since they played a show, so it was a random blessing that they happened to be playing last night.  They sounded just as beautiful as they did when I first heard them.  And James was sweet enough to stick around for another hour after we ate to sit and watch them.  It was just what my soul needed....  I thought it would be fun to do a little she wore, he wore from last night.  Its not that often that my boy lets me take pics of him, so this was a special treat!

I love this shot of Bella lounging out by the flowers.  Yes I let her lay on the dining room table.  This will eventually become a problem when we actually try to use it for dinner... but we dont.  We eat on the couch and always have.  But this table sure comes in handy for a junk pile or a work table!

I wore a new feather earring that will be going into Roots and Feathers soon.  Its the perfect blend of colors.  And I was super excited to actually have a place to wear my new Red Velvet dress to.  It felt very special.  And James admitted that it is growing on him :)

All I got was a low key phone shot of the band.  They are both so beautiful, and so friendly.  I was glad we got to chat with them a bit after the show.  Very heart warming folks.

Thank you for all of the wonderful anniversary wishes we got on here and on facebook.  You guys are entirely too sweet for words.

Four years of bliss...

Today is our 4 year wedding anniversary...and although the title of this post humorously says 'four years of bliss', its not far off.  In other words, I would not have it any other way, and what could be more blissful than that?  For any of you who are married, you know its not always a walk in the park.  Our marriage is no exception.  There have been so many ups and downs, trials and tribulations and what not.  But honestly all of those struggles we have endured have made us closer and stronger than we ever could have been without them.  I think finding the beauty in these lessons as you go along, and still loving each other through it all, is what really matters.  

Yesterday James walked in the door from work with these beautiful flowers in hand.  I always think its cute the flowers he picks.  He thinks really hard about what I would like.  He always picks flowers I never would have picked myself, but I always love them.  He knew I would love the deep plum color of these, and he was right!  I put them in the big vase we had as our centerpiece on our wedding table.  I only break out this vase on special occasions.

This morning we are just kind of lounging around... I made this pretty treasury a bit ago, wishing we were close enough to the beach to go enjoy a stroll.  I think we are going out to eat somewhere tonite, and I just might wear my new blue velvet dress.

Thank You + Blog Makeover + Giveaway >>>

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the wonderful feedback I received on my latest lookbook for Roots and Feathers.  I had so much fun creating it, and look forward to making many more in the future.  (I also have one coming up that Im doing for another company that Im excited about).  This look below was the majority favorite, thank you!  Ive had several people ask where I got the dress in this photo... its actually a halter top and open in the back, and Ive had it since I was about 15.  I think the only time I actually wore it out somewhere was to a Tori Amos concert!  And these amazing shoes are Michael Kors that I found at Ross for cheap!  I was stoked!

You may have noticed that the whole look of the blog has changed over the past day or so.  I spent most of yesterday working on the revamp.  Ive been wanting to make a more cohesive blend between my two shops, Roots & Feathers and Violet Bella, and I think I finally have done just that.  Its been a long process of blog changes to finally get there.  Im still working out some kinks, some of the link under the 'link' section are currently not working, but Ill get there...

Tomorrow is me and my boy's 4 year wedding anniversary!  Its pretty amazing how fast it has gone by.  So much has happened in our lives in a mere 4 years, talk about change.  We will be celebrating it next weekend when we go see Rocky Votolato at Stubb's.  I think seeing him when he comes there may become a tradition... Its the perfect place to see a show like that.  I have a feeling this next week is going to fly by!
